Thank you so much for coming to conferences. I hope you saw the amazing growth that your child has made. We have a wonderful class and they are hard workers! If you have any questions about the conferences or any other issues, please email me at rivereubanks@wlcsd.org. The first report card will be posted in December.

On Wednesday, we will be going on our first field trip to the Outdoor Center. Please dress for the weather, we will be outside in rain or shine.

I figured out what was wrong with the Connect Ed math website. Students should just click on the book, not on the “Add” button. If you click on the “add” button, the program asks for a reference code. I already added the book to all the students. Everyone should be able to play the games and see the lesson by clicking on the book.

As winter approaches please remember that we go outside every day and for an extra hour on Wednesdays. The only time that we do not go outside is when it is below zero degrees or it is raining. Your child should have snow boots, a coat, a hat, snow pants and gloves to go outside. Students cannot stay in the office or with me during recess. I either go to meetings or have lunch when students are outside. It is a good idea to put extra socks in your child’s backpack in case the socks he/she is wearing gets wet. Your child may leave their snow pants at school, so they do not have to carry them back and forth to school. Every Friday I will send home all winter gear.
Reading:
As a whole class we are working on decoding words. Students know that the picture and words match, now we are working on pointing to the first letter of every word and having our fingers and words match. Students are placed in reading/center groups. In these groups, I am able to give individualized instruction to best help your child grow as a reader, writer and mathematician.
This week we studied about Bears and what they do during the winter. This subject will help students understand the field trip better. Ask your child if they know any bear facts.
Writing:
We are writing personal stories, using a pattern. Every page will start with the same words. This helps us gain writing confidence and helps us practice our site words.
