February 5th Newsletter

Happy February! We are half-way through kindergarten! Our Students have progressed so much! Mr. Eubanks and I are so proud of them! This month we will be starting new units in math, science, and literacy. We will celebrate Valentine’s Day and enjoy some time to sharpen the saw over mid-winter break!

Social Studies: Students will continue learning about the concepts of past, present, and future. We will read biographies, learn about where our families came from and where we live now.

Writing: Students will work on adding feeling words into their small moments. Students are expected to write a story that has a beginning, middle and end while using punctuation consistently. Late this week or early next week, we will be writing a story that will be graded and given to our First Grade teacher.

Math: This week we will be starting unit 6. Students will learn about measuring, graphing, subtraction, and story problems. Please review different ways to make the number 10 (5+5, 4+6, etc.).

Literacy: Students will be working on close reading. In a close reading, we read the same book each day of the week and look at new aspects such as vocabulary words and purpose of the story.

Science: Students will begin learning about the forces of push and pull. We will investigate forces on the playground and in our classroom. Students will be keeping a science journal to record their findings.
