Hello Families,
Happy Thanksgiving! Can you believe it is already Thanksgiving?! There will not be a newsletter next week. This week was Diversity Week throughout the Walled Lake Schools. We learned how we are all different, but all the same. On Friday afternoon we talked about our hero and we drew a picture of our moms with the title “My Mom is my hero.” The picture will be displayed at the Martin Luther King Jr. District Event in January. Next week our theme will be all about Thanksgiving. Both of these themes correlate with our next Social Studies Unit, Children Near and Far.
This week’s vocabulary words were changed to “plan, able, travel return.” We will continue to learn about these words next week.
I wanted to CONGRATULATE and HONOR every family! By Thursday afternoon every student practiced iReady for 45 minutes or more. THANK YOU! We have an AMAZING class, and I am so thankful and proud of them!
On Monday you can sign up for conferences. Read the message below (from last week’s newsletter on how to sign up for parent-teacher- conferences).
Thursday, December 13th– Early Dismissal– Conferences– First Trimester Report Cards come out- School is dismissed at 11:09.
Every family should plan on meeting with Ms. Eiden and myself for Parent Teacher Conferences. Each conference is about 15-20 minutes. Only parents attend the Parent Teacher Conferences; students do not come. Parents sign up for a specific conference time on the Skyward website ON OR AFTER MONDAY, NOVEMBER 19. Directions on how to schedule a conference are below:
CLICK HERE for instructions on how to sign up for a conference!
You should already have your Skyward login name and password. If you do not have the login information and password, please contact the office. I do not have your student’s Skyward login and password information. If you cannot meet on Thursday, December 13th, please email or text me, and we will set up a new day and time rivereubanks@wlcsd.org. Ms. Eiden and I are here most mornings very early, and it would help us if we could schedule some conferences before the start of the school day.
Fundraiser
This year Pleasant Lake Elementary is trying a different kind of fundraiser. As you know, we are selling raffle tickets. Each ticket is $5. We are beginning this fundraiser now and ending on December 14th. If you need more raffle tickets, please contact me, I have more.
Reading
Many of our students are reading! This excellent class has mostly mastered the word to finger match and are moving beyond reading simple pattern books. We are beginning to learn simple decoding skills.
Writing
We are almost done with writing pattern books. This week we wrote see-saw patterns that had a surprise ending. Next week we will write question and answer pattern books. We will be done with pattern books and move into narrative writing after Thanksgiving.
Math
In math, we learned more about ten frames, learned about shorter and longer and made a classroom number book. Both Ms. Eiden and I are beginning to assess students. You will see these grades in their report card. Most students could count to 100 by 1s and 10s. GREAT JOB CLASS!
Phonics
We are learning about short vowel sounds, rhyming words, and word families. A word family rhymes and all ends in the same two letters (i.e., fan, man, can, ran, tan). We are also putting three letters (sometimes called CVC or constant vowel constant words) together to make a word. These two concepts are the same, the only difference is one you read and one you write.
This week’s iReady winners! Keep up the Hard Work!
