This was a busy week! On Monday, we wrote how to make pizza. On Tuesday, we went to the farm and made pizza in the afternoon; we made barn animals hang in the hallway on Wednesday. On Friday, we worked with worms and said goodbye to Ms. Tracz. We were able to buy Ms. Tracz a $100 gift card to Lakeshore Learning and a laminator with lamination sheets because of everyone’s donations!
Next week, we will start a countdown to the end of the year. Beginning on May 4th, we will review a letter, sound, and letter formation. Each day we will have a unique activity starting with the letter we are on.
On Thursday, May 5th – Beach Day- bring sunglasses and a beach towel to school.
On Friday, May 6th- Wear your hair crazy to school.
Phonics
We graduated with vowel power and finished learning about our vowels. Next, your child received a certificate celebrating that they know how to use their vowels. Finally, we celebrated Mabel (our class mascot) and made signs congratulating her.

Writing
We finished our “How To” books, and next week we will work on Mother Day books. Our next writing unit will be about persuasive or opinion writing. We also learned how to write with a partner and work together in groups.
Reading
We finished our Avid Reader Unit and celebrated by reading from a partner from Ms. Spontelli’s class. It was a fun time for everyone.

Math
We learned about estimation and practiced estimating. Please help your child by reviewing the word estimation meaning. We also worked on decomposing and composing numbers. Decomposing is essentially “breaking” a bigger number into smaller parts, such as ten can be decomposed into 4 and 6.

Science
We have been learning about living and nonliving things. For example, we learned about worms on Friday and built a worm habitat for our classroom.
