Welcome to the end of the year! It is a time that I wouldn’t say I like because we have developed excellent relationships with each family, and I do not want to say goodbye. I love these students, and it is an honor and a privileged to get to know every family and student.
Thank you for coming to the Sing and Share! I know how hard it is to go to something in the middle of the day, and I appreciate all the hard work you put into your children! We have a phenomenal class.
Please make sure your child gets enough sleep and comes to school rested for next’s week iReady test. If your child falls below a specific score, we will have a follow-up meeting; I will contact you if this is the case. Once everyone is done with the test, I will send home the scores.
The next few weeks are action-packed (hectic)-
On Monday: We will begin the iReady test. Also, we will be practicing one of our options-based emergency responses. Finally, I will give a lesson focused on evacuating and safe places to go in an emergency.
On Tuesday- Friday: We will be continuing iReady in the morning.
Friday, May 27-is, a Half Day
Monday, May 30- No School
Wednesday, June 1 – Hopefully, we will be done with iReady
Friday- June 3- Field Day – We will be outside doing gym activities outside all morning long. More information to come.
Placement
Placement to first grade can be a very worrisome time for parents. The whole kindergarten team works together to find the best groupings for each student. Since we do not know who will be teaching in first grade until the end of summer, we do not place students by teacher. Mr. Maktari will set each group with a specific teacher.
Summer Birthdays
We will be having a class celebration for all the summer birthdays, all on one day, Friday, June 3, after field day. We will not have any birthday celebrations after June 3. As with the other birthday celebrations, parents do not come, which will be very quick.
Theme and Science:
This week’s theme was all about rocks, and we learned about the different types and how stones are made. In addition, we made rocks reports and studied rocks we found outside.

Next week’s theme will be economics, and we will be learning about wants and needs, and money.
Reading
We are learning about nonfiction books and how to read and retell them. In addition, we are using our super-decoding skills to read and learn facts in new books.
Writing
This week in writing, we have been generating persuasive posters by finding problems around school and writing about how we can fix them. The kids are doing an excellent job!

Phonics
We play around with sounds and use what we know about sounds to make new words.
Math
We learned how to play, Fishing for ten, or different ways to make the number 10. I sent home a way to play in the Sing and Share folder that you took home. We also learned and will continue to learn about place value, addition, and subtraction. Many of the students could use help with ways to make 10, place value, and subtraction. I also sent home a math practice test; we will take a similar test.
