Goodbye Letter and Water Day Pictures

Dear Parents and Guardians,

First, I want to thank you for your grace, support, and encouragement (for both your students and me) throughout this past year. I am grateful to have been partners with you through the ups and downs of this journey, and I commend you for becoming an extension of me on top of all the other challenges you have faced. Second, I am proud of what our students were able to accomplish and how they showed me perseverance and ownership, maturity, and empathy. They are impressive people bound for greatness in their school journey.

I know that you’re probably ready for a well-deserved break! However, with summer here, you may also be looking for ways to continue to engage your students in learning, so they are prepared for first grade. There is a beautiful solution to those worries: READING!

Solid research has revealed that the “summer slide” can be prevented by simply reading. Students can improve in all subjects by challenging themselves by reading books that appeal to their interests, trying new genres, or reading challenging texts with family. I want you and your students to feel ready for the level of learning they will face in 1st grade. No matter your student’s level, any reading will benefit them!

I will miss seeing your student and your family, so please stop by and say “hi.” no matter what grade your students are in. Please use this summer to help your student rest, recharge, and find joy in reading! Take care of yourselves, and please don’t hesitate to reach out if you need anything.

Sincerely,

River Eubanks
