The Best Part of your 11-7th week is our newsletter with Halloween Pictures and MORE!!!

I can’t believe Monday was Halloween and Sunday was the time change. The year is going by incredibly fast. Thank you to all who came, those who donated, and those who had fun! I am glad we had the Halloween parade and party back; we did not have a parade for about a decade. Report cards and conferences are just around the corner. We have a new report card this year, k-5, and I will get more information to you on this as soon as I get more information. I know that it is much more detailed, and scores will be lower in the first trimester because there is so much we still need to cover.

If you have not sent in your Turkey in Disguise, please do so; everyone loves seeing them in the hallway.

There has been a lot of sickness in our classroom. Please keep your child at home in case of illness. I did not send poetry notebooks home on Friday because we missed many people. On Thursday, I was absent, and the secretary had to come down and check everyone’s temperature; around six students went home with a fever.

This week’s theme was All about Fall; we went outside and took pictures of signs of autumn and tied them into the science unit on the five senses.

Reading

We made our reading goal of reading for 15 minutes without stopping! We celebrated on Friday with ice cream and finished our first reading unit. We acted out Caps for Sale, the Carrot Seed, and our poem, five little turkeys. Our next unit will deal more with sounds, pointing, and the beginning of decoding words.

Writing

We are still working on pattern book writing and stretching out words we need to learn to spell. Students use three snap words they know and then stretch out the last word. For example, I can see the pumpkin. I can see the house. I can see Halloween. The words pumpkin, house, and Halloween would be spelled phonemically.

Phonics

We are working on identifying, naming, and writing the first and last sounds. We covered every letter but will continue studying different sounds and sound combinations.

Math

We learned about shapes, how to make them and how corners and sides line up. We also went over different ways to make the number ten and story problems and began to work on measurement.

Social Studies

We learned about the culture and how we are the same and different. Then, we took a survey where we compared ourselves to a friend.

Halloween Party Pictures

I took as many pictures as I could while I helped with the party. Again, I am sorry if I did not get your child’s specific picture. I did the best I could. There are some pictures of us acting out Caps for Sale.
