🌈 Kindergarten Classroom News 🌈
Hello Wonderful Families!
Can you believe how fast this year is flying by? Our little learners have been working so hard, and we have some exciting updates to share with you.
I wanted to extend my sincerest apologies for being off lately. The effects of the coronavirus have hit me quite challenging, and it has impacted my usual capacity and responsiveness. I’m doing my best to recover and get back on track.
Thank you for your understanding and patience during this time. I appreciate your support and will keep you updated on my progress.
Autumn is in full swing, and with it comes a season of discovery and learning. We’ve been diving into some thematic units that are not only educational but also lots of fun! Let’s look at what our little explorers have been up to.
🎃 Pumpkin Exploration:
We’ve had a wonderful time studying and carving pumpkins! From their bumpy outer shells to their gooey insides, we’ve explored them inside and out. But our journey didn’t stop there…
🔄 Pumpkin Life Cycle:
Did you know that pumpkins have a fascinating life cycle? We started with seeds and traced their journey as they grew into sprawling vines, blossomed into flowers, and eventually became the pumpkins we know and love. The kids have loved learning about each stage and understanding the wonder of nature’s processes.
🍎 Comparing Apples to… Pumpkins?:
Yes, that’s right! After our deep dive into pumpkins, we turned our attention to apples. We studied the life cycle of apples and noticed some similarities and differences compared to pumpkins. This comparative study helped our kids to develop observational and analytical skills. They’ve become quite the little scientists!
In addition to learning about their life cycles, we also talked about the various uses for both pumpkins and apples – from pies to jack-o-lanterns and from cider to apple sauce. It’s been a delicious and enlightening experience!
Thank you for continuing to support and engage with your child’s learning journey. Their enthusiasm and eagerness to learn make every day a joy. We look forward to the exciting adventures in the coming weeks!
🔠 All About Letters:
We’ve had a fantastic journey exploring every letter of the alphabet! Your child has been working diligently to recognize and pronounce each one. But that was just the beginning…
📚 Building Words & Sentences:
Now, it’s time for the magic to happen! We’re taking all those letters and blending them phonically to create words. It’s like a puzzle, and it’s so exciting to see the kids’ eyes light up when they read their first words. From words, we’re creating sentences and discovering the joy of reading.
✍️ Writing Time:
In addition to reading, we’ve started our journey into the world of writing. We’re creating “pattern books.” These are simple, repetitive books that allow our kids to practice writing and recognizing familiar patterns in words. It’s a foundational step towards becoming an amazing author!
📘 Reading Unit One:
Hooray! We’ve completed our first unit in Reading. The kids have been introduced to the basics, and now, we’re diving deeper. The focus now is on “decoding” words. This means we’ll be learning strategies to figure out how to read unfamiliar words independently. It’s all about building confidence and independence!
🔢 Math Fun:
Numbers are not just about counting! We’ve explored “story problems,” which help the kids to use math in real-life scenarios. We’ve also studied “subitizing,” which is the ability to instantly recognize the number of objects without counting them. This skill is super helpful in developing number sense and mental math abilities.
Thank you for being an integral part of your child’s learning journey. We’re truly a team, and your support makes all the difference. We can’t wait to see all the incredible progress our kiddos will make in the coming weeks.
We studied bus safety and made haunted houses with our fifth-grade buddies.
