Hello Wonderful Families!
As we wrap up another exciting week in kindergarten, I wanted to share with you all the fantastic progress your little ones are making. It’s truly a joy to witness their growth and curiosity bloom!
Writing Wonders:
We are diving deeper into storytelling, focusing on crafting “How To” stories. It’s been a delightful journey observing the children articulate their thoughts step by step and then label each part. This exercise enhances their writing skills and sharpens their logical sequencing. Watching them figure out the missing steps and the reader’s perspective is like piecing together a puzzle – full of surprises and learning!
Phonics Fun:
Our phonics journey is getting more exciting! We’re mastering our short vowel sounds and have begun exploring the magical world of long vowel sounds. Blends and digraphs are on our radar, too. Please continue practicing the snap words at home and ensure your child completes 30 minutes of iReady reading and math instruction weekly. It’s crucial for their learning journey, and we must make up for missed instructional minutes.
Report Card Assessments:
This week was assessment week, as I better understood each child’s learning journey for their upcoming report cards. I’m eager for you to see their progress next week!
Super Readers Assemble:
In our quest to make reading even more exhilarating, I’ve introduced capes and masks for our “Super Reader Thursday”! I encourage your little superheroes to wear a superhero shirt or something red or blue. Remember, there’s no need to buy anything new; something from home will do just fine.
Mathematical Minds:
In math, we’re exploring the attributes of shapes, diving into addition, and discovering various ways to make 10. This concept is proving to be tricky, so any extra practice at home would be beneficial. For example, understanding that 7 + __ = 10 means the answer is 3 is essential.
As we continue this journey, I am reminded why this time of year is my favorite. The students are not just learning; they enjoy the process, understand the concepts, and enthusiastically apply them. Your support and involvement make all the difference, and I am grateful to have such a wonderful group of families and students.
Magical Math Moments:
Our classroom was buzzing with extra excitement this week as we embarked on a deliciously educational adventure with Lucky Charms! The children became little mathematicians, graphing the various marshmallow shapes in their cereal. It was a fantastic hands-on way to introduce data collection and analysis, and it was tasty, too!
Leprechaun Traps:
We’ve also begun designing our Leprechaun traps in the spirit of creativity and engineering! This activity is not just about the fun of possibly catching a mischievous leprechaun; it’s about problem-solving, teamwork, and applying our knowledge of materials and design. The children’s imaginations genuinely know no bounds, and I am constantly amazed by their innovative ideas.
As we meld creativity with learning, these activities enrich our curriculum and ensure that our days are filled with joy and discovery. Watching your children approach each project with such enthusiasm is a reminder of the magic of learning.
Thank you, dear families, for your continuous support and encouragement. It’s shaping up to be a memorable month filled with laughter, learning, and maybe a leprechaun or two!
Warmly,
Mr. Eubanks
