Dear Families,
As we near the close of another fantastic school year, I wanted to share some updates and reminders with you all. May is a busy time, and we have much to cover academically. This week is Earth Day week at our school. Remember to wear blue and green on Friday. Also, this week, we will go outside to help clean up the school grounds.
Teacher Update:
Firstly, between now and the end of the year, I will be away from class for about five days before to meet the new students joining us next academic year. During this time, our students might experience a range of emotions as they come to understand that I will not be their teacher next year. It’s natural for children to feel a bit uncertain or display different behaviors during such transitions. I appreciate your support and understanding as we navigate these changes together.
Mathematics:
In math, we are currently focusing on subtraction. Many students are finding this concept challenging. To help reinforce their learning, please practice using the flashcards that were sent home. A little practice each day can make a big difference!
Writing:
We have just completed our short unit on All About Writing and are returning to our exciting How-to writings. This week, we will dive into “How to Make Pizza.” Not only will the children write about the process, but they will also have the chance to make and eat their pizzas. It’s a delicious way to learn!
Phonics:
In phonics, our focus is on mastering blends and short vowel sounds. Understanding these phonetic patterns is crucial as it helps children decode new words more effectively, enhancing their reading and writing skills.
Reading:
Our reading lessons are now concentrating on more complex decoding strategies. These skills are essential as they help improve reading fluency and comprehension, enabling students to tackle more challenging texts confidently.
Science and Social Studies:
In science, we have explored the concepts of push and pull and have briefly paused to study Maps, reflecting last week’s theme. This week, we’re excited to introduce the theme of Wants and Needs, or Economics. Students will learn about money, its importance, and the roles of producers and consumers in our society.
Special Reminder:
Please remember to return your Sing and Share note for our upcoming performance on May 9th. It’s important that each child has someone special in the audience to share this moment with. Let’s make sure everyone has support on this wonderful day!
Thank you for your continued support and cooperation. Let’s make these last few weeks as productive and fun as possible!
Important Dates:
