Kindergarten Newsletter
Dear Kindergarten Families,
I hope this message finds you well! We’ve had a busy and exciting week in kindergarten, and I wanted to take a moment to share some updates and reminders.
Important Reminders:
- Supplies and Party Money: Please send in any missing supplies and party money if you haven’t already. We want to ensure we have everything we need for our upcoming celebrations!
- Headphones Needed: Please make sure your child has headphones at school. We will be starting our iReady Diagnostic soon. This online assessment helps us understand your child’s strengths and areas for growth in reading and math. The headphones will help keep them focused during this time.
What We’ve Been Learning:
- Phonics: We have been working on learning and practicing the letters M, S, T, N, and R. We have also been practicing writing our names. At this point, your child should know how to write their name independently. Please encourage them to practice at home! We also began studying syllables.
- Writing: In writing, we have been focusing on how our pictures tell a story. Soon, we will begin working in reading centers, where I will pull small groups to focus on specific skills.
- Math: We’ve been practicing counting to 100 by ones and tens. This is an essential kindergarten skill; the students have been doing great! Feel free to practice counting at home with your child.
Behavior:
Some students are having difficulty with following directions and using their inside voices. Please take a moment to remind your child about the importance of listening and following directions at school. We are working on creating a calm and respectful classroom environment, and I appreciate your support at home.
Next week, I will begin contacting parents about specific student behaviors if needed. Thank you in advance for your cooperation in helping us reinforce positive behavior.
Upcoming Events:
- Curriculum Night: I am excited to welcome you to our classroom for Curriculum Night on September 10th at 5:30 p.m. This will be an excellent opportunity for you to learn more about what we’ll be working on this year!
- Picture Day: Picture Day has been canceled and will be rescheduled. I will update you once we have the new date.
Thank you for your continued support. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
