Super Readers Day with Pictures!

Super Readers & Science Racers!

Today was extra super! We dressed up as superheroes and flew into the first-grade classrooms to show off our incredible reading powers. Your child will be bringing home their cape and mask today as a keepsake from their heroic reading mission. Their confidence was soaring—so many proud smiles and well-deserved applause!

Earlier this week in science, we wrapped up our unit on pushes and pulls with an exciting hands-on project. The kids learned all about ramps and how different heights affect how fast a car can go. Each child built a ramp, and we had so much fun racing cars and observing how the size of the ramp changed the speed. It was a perfect blend of engineering, physics, and just good old-fashioned fun!

Kindergarten Newsletter
Mr. Eubanks’ Class – Weekly Update
Dear Families,

What a joyful week we’ve had in kindergarten! As always, your children continue to amaze me with their curiosity, kindness, and growth. We’re learning how to think like writers, readers, mathematicians, and friends—one giggle and “aha!” moment at a time.

✍️ Writing Workshop

We’ve been diving deeper into our How-To books! The kids are doing an amazing job turning their everyday expertise into step-by-step guides for their readers. This week, we added “tips” to help make our writing even more helpful and clear—whether it’s how to build a snowman, brush your teeth, or make the best peanut butter sandwich on Earth. Next week, we’ll learn how to write introductions and conclusions, and then we’ll shift into a brand new writing genre: All About books! It’s a beautiful journey watching your children find their voice through writing.

📚 Reading & Phonics

In phonics, we are putting on our “Vowel Vision Glasses”—okay, they’re imaginary, but very effective! We’re learning that every word needs a vowel, and we’re getting good at spotting them. Your child may come home pointing out vowels in every cereal box and sign they see—this is a good thing!

In reading, we’re using both Vowel Power and Slider Power to tackle unfamiliar words. These strategies help us stretch out the sounds and use what we know to decode new words. It’s such a joy to see their confidence grow—books are opening up like magic doors!

➕➖ Math Magic

This week we put on our math hats (they’re also imaginary, but they fit perfectly) to explore number lines, subtraction, and addition. We also introduced 3D or solid shapes, which are the shapes we see all around us in the real world. Here are the shapes we’re learning:

  • Sphere – like a ball or an orange
  • Cylinder – like a soup can or a glue stick
  • Cube – like dice or a tissue box
  • Cone – like an ice cream cone (yum!)
  • Rectangular prism – like a cereal box
  • Pyramid – like the ones in Egypt!

We love using real-world objects to help make these concepts stick—so if you hear your child yelling “That’s a cylinder!” in the kitchen, it’s just math magic happening at home!

👫 Theme of the Week: Feelings & Friends

This week, we focused on understanding our own feelings and being a good friend. We practiced using kind words, sharing space, and even calming down when things get tricky. Your children are growing not just academically but socially and emotionally every day—and I couldn’t be prouder.

🗺️ Next Week: Map Explorers!

Next week’s theme will be Maps! We’ll learn how to read simple maps and understand the world from a bird’s-eye view. (Yes, that’s how birds see things from way up high!) Your child will bring home a short map homework activity to support this learning—keep an eye out for it! It’s a fun and simple way to talk with your child about how things look from above.

As always, thank you for your support, your kind words, and the love you pour into your children. You are their first and forever teachers—and I feel lucky to be part of your child’s learning journey.

With warmth and smiles,
River Eubanks
