Mr. Eubanks’ Class – A Week of Wonder!
Dear Families,
What a joyful week we’ve had! It’s hard to believe we’re nearing the finish line of kindergarten, but we’re still soaking up every magical moment together. Here’s a peek into all the fun and learning happening in our classroom:
🌳 Field Trip Fun!
We had a fantastic time on our field trip to the West Bloomfield Nature Center and the public library! The nature center was a beautiful adventure where we explored the wonders of the outdoors, met some friendly critters, and learned about the habitats in our backyard. At the library, the children were excited to discover new books, enjoy story time, and practice their library manners like pros. Thank you to our chaperones and volunteers for making this day a success!
🖥️ iReady Testing – Check!
We’ve officially wrapped up our spring iReady testing! Your children worked hard and showed great perseverance. I’m proud of their effort and progress. The results help us see how far they’ve come and where we can support them next.
✏️ A Quick Note About Next Week
Good news! I’ll only be out one day next week—Thursday—as I help assess the new incoming kindergarteners for next year. It’s always exciting to meet the next group of little learners!
🗣️ Writing: Persuasive Powers
In writing, we’re tapping into the art of persuasion! Students are learning how to write opinions and back them up with reasons (and let me tell you, we’ve heard some very passionate arguments about favorite snacks, pets, and even recess games!). They’re learning to wrap up their pieces with a convincing closer like, “I hope you pick ____ too!”
🧠 Phonics: Stretching Our Sound Skills
We’ve been taking apart sounds and exploring digraphs (like ch, sh, and th) to help us spell bigger and more complex words. The students do a fantastic job stretching sounds and spotting familiar patterns.
📚 Reading: Playdates with a Purpose
Our “Reading Playdates” are in full swing! During these sessions, students pair up and practice decoding tricky words, retelling stories, and reminding each other to use their reading strategies. It’s both sweet and scholarly!
➕➖ Math: Building Big Thinkers
In math, we’re diving into addition and subtraction with confidence, and tackling story problems like little math detectives. We’re also reviewing foundational skills to ensure a strong start in first grade.
🔁 Reviewing and Preparing
As the school year winds down, we are reviewing many of the key concepts we’ve learned throughout the year. This final stretch is all about reinforcing skills that will support a smooth transition into first grade.
📋 Report Cards & Placement
I am currently working hard on report cards and helping create next year’s class placements. Just a little behind-the-scenes peek: teachers create the class lists, and then our principal makes the final decisions on teacher assignments.
🎒 Backpacks Every Day, Please!
Even though we’re nearing the end of the year, please continue to send your child’s backpack every day, including the last day of school. We are sending home lots of important items—projects, books, supplies, and sweet memories!
Thank you for your continued support and partnership. This time of year is full of reflection, celebration, and preparation, and I’m so proud of the incredible growth your children have shown. Let’s finish strong!
With joy,
River Eubanks
