Kindergarten Newsletter
Dear Families,
What a full and exciting week we’ve had together in kindergarten! The children continue to amaze me with their energy, curiosity, and eagerness to learn. Here’s a peek at what we’ve been working on and what’s coming up next:
Literacy Focus: Rhyming & Sight Words
This week, we spent time exploring rhyming words. Rhyming helps children tune their ears to the sounds in language, which is an important early reading skill. You may have heard your child coming up with fun word pairs at home—cat/hat, sun/fun, tree/bee. We’ll keep building on this skill as we move forward.
We are also focusing on our sight words: like, me, the, my, no, and see. The words “like” and “the” are special spotlight words this week. Practicing these at home—pointing them out in books, signs, or even on grocery labels—really helps reinforce what we’re learning in class.
iReady Progress
This week’s theme was iReady, and I am so proud of how the children worked through their test. I will send home the scores next week. We completed iReady in small groups, and if your child needed a little extra time, I worked closely with them to help finish. iReady provides us with valuable information on each child’s strengths and areas where we can offer additional support. The kids worked hard, and I couldn’t be prouder of their persistence.
Math Adventures
In math, we’ve been learning about five frames and ten frames—simple but powerful tools to help children see number patterns, build counting skills, and prepare for future algebraic thinking. These early foundations lay the groundwork for significant mathematical growth later on, and the kids are catching on quickly.
Centers and Classroom Routines
We’re putting extra focus on making our learning centers more effective. The children are practicing independence, responsibility, and collaboration during this time. Our routines are settling in beautifully, and I can see their confidence growing day by day.
Upcoming Theme: The Five Senses
Next week, our theme will be The Five Senses. We’ll be exploring how we use our eyes, ears, nose, mouth, and hands to experience the world. This is always a fun and hands-on topic, and I look forward to seeing the kids dive in with curiosity.
Important Reminders
- Monday: Picture Day (our class will take pictures in the afternoon). My advice—wait to see the pictures before purchasing. It’s usually the easiest option. I don’t recommend sending cash to school, as it sometimes gets misplaced.
- Wednesday: There will be a substitute in the classroom.
- Thursday: No school.
Please check your child’s folder each night for important information, including details about Trunk or Treat and our PTA Kindness Fundraiser. The fundraiser includes some wonderful prizes, and we encourage every family to register—even if you choose not to donate. Participation matters, and sharing kindness is something we can all do together.
A Note of Appreciation
Thank you for sharing your wonderful children with me each day. I genuinely enjoy working with them—they bring a great deal of joy, humor, and discovery to our classroom. Together, we are building skills, routines, and confidence that will serve them throughout the year.
Warmly,
River Eubanks
