Upcoming Important Week

As we head into a very busy and exciting week in kindergarten, I wanted to share a quick look at what is coming up in our classroom. We have so many wonderful things happening, and while it will certainly be a full week, it is also one that highlights just how much your children have grown and how much special learning is happening in our room each day.

Thursday, April 30, will bring a special visit, as district leaders will come into our classroom to see the wonderful learning in action. Visits like this are always exciting and, if I am being honest, a little stressful too, but they are also a chance for our students to shine and show all the meaningful work they do each day. Our class has been working hard all year, and I know they will make us proud.

This Monday, May 4th our class will have a substitute teacher. Earlier this year, I worked an extra day over the summer and selected this date long ago as my compensation day during the school year. Our classroom routines are strong, the children know what is expected, and they are very prepared to have a successful day together.

On Tuesday May 5th, our classroom will again have a substitute, but this day is especially exciting. I will be attending with our class as district literacy leaders and curriculum trainers from New York visit our classroom to model reading and writing instruction. They will be teaching lessons in our room while approximately 30 teachers and administrators observe. This is a tremendous honor for our class and a reflection of the thoughtful work your children do every day. It is not every day that a kindergarten classroom is chosen to open its doors in this way, and I am so proud that our students and classroom community were selected for this opportunity.

In between all of these important visits, we are also hard at work on some very special projects of our own. This week we will be creating our Mother’s Day gifts, and the students are already very excited to begin making something meaningful and heartfelt. These projects are always a favorite in kindergarten, and the children put so much love into them.

We will also begin our spring iReady testing on Wednesday, May 6, when I return, rather than waiting until the following Monday. This adjusted schedule helps us meet the district testing deadline while still giving students the support and structure they need to do their best. The iReady assessment is an important tool that helps us measure growth and celebrate how much progress each child has made this year. The children have worked incredibly hard, and I am looking forward to seeing all they have learned reflected in their growth.

It will be a busy week, but it will also be a very meaningful one. Thank you, as always, for your support, flexibility, and trust. Your children continue to amaze me with their growth, resilience, and joy, and I am so proud of all they are accomplishing together.
