Newsletter March 5, 2017

This week’s theme was push, pull, gravity, forces and motion.  This standard is on the upcoming report card.
Reading- We have been working on retelling. Specifically, characters, setting and events. Next week we will focus on connections and favorite parts.  Encourage your child to talk about the story and ask questions about his/her reading.  Open ended questions like; “What was your favorite part? and “Why do you think the author wrote this?” will help your student understand that reading has meaning.
Writing- In writing we studied “How To” Stories.  How to stories work well with our reading lessons on retelling.  Retelling and How To stories have the same structure of explaining an event thoroughly.
Phonics- We are making word families and studying the short vowel sounds.
Math- We learned about 3d/solid shapes and 2d/flat shapes.  Students need some practice on naming and making simple flat/2d shapes.
