Hello Families
Being a good reader is critical if a student is going to be successful in school. In 2017, the Michigan Legislature implemented the Third Grade Reading Law to ensure that students exit 3rd grade reading at or above grade level, which will impact the current 2017-2018 kindergarten and first-grade students by the time they are in 3rd grade. By this law, and as a means of better-informing classroom instruction, districts will be providing K-3 reading assessments to students across the state. These assessments will identify students who need intensive reading instruction and intervention, and will also provide useful information to help teachers tailor instruction to meet individual student’s needs. Part of the law expects students at the end of third grade to read at grade level and pass the test, or they might have to repeat third-grade.

Please keep on practicing the heart words (sometimes known as sight words). New words come home weekly. We work on these words at school, and they should practice writing and reading these words at home. Being able to read and write the heart words will help your child in reading and writing. New Heart Words went home today. I usually send four new words once a week.
Please dress for the weather and keep in mind we go out to recess every day and for an extra hour on Mondays. The only time we do not go outside is if it is raining or if the weather is below zero. Students should have hats and gloves now when it gets snowy they should wear snow pants and boots. Students are not able to stay inside during recess. When the students have recess, I have lunch or go to a meeting. The office is not able to watch students during recess.
The first homework packet went home today. Take your time finishing the homework. It is not due until December 1st. Homework packets will go home monthly. Also, our Turkey Projects went home last week. The
turkey
project is due on Monday, November 13th.
Please do not send in candy for a snack.
