You might have noticed the passwords on the back of your child’s folder. PLE has provided the kindergarten classes with RAZ kids and Everyday Math Games Online.   Three years ago I heard about Raz Kids, I bought it for my son Asher, last year PLE bought it for K-2 students. The program “Raz Kids” are leveled books that you can read on the computer or through an app (Iphone or android). These books are similar to the books I use to teach reading, and the books your child takes home in the book bags.

Program Overview

  • Each child has a different password and username. The login is on back of your child’s take home folder
  • I assigned your child to a reading level online based on his/her performance in the classroom.
  • Your child needs to earn a checkmark for each of the symbols that are located in each book. (Ear, eye and question mark.) *See reading “rules below.*
  • Your child earns “stars” for each checkmark that they earn. Near the top of the page, you will find a tab labeled, Raz-Rocket. This is a pretend space themed area where students can “buy” items for their Raz-Rocket room using the stars that they earned for reading.
  • Once a child earns a checkmark for all symbols, they automatically will be advanced to the next level of books.
  • Example: If your child starts on a level C book and they earn a checkmark for each book, they automatically will be moved to the level D library.

At Home:

You can login to the computer or download an app (Android, Ipad, and iPhone compatible).

When your child logs in (see the attached paper for your child’s login information) here are some helpful hints:

  • First, listen to the book. (Click the ear)- your child can listen to books as many times as he/she would like)

  • Next, read the book. (Click the eye)

  • Finally, take the comprehension quiz. (Question mark) If your child does not pass the quiz the first time: have them listen to the book again and then try retaking the quiz. If they do not pass the quiz (earning a checkmark) the second time: move on to another book. We will look at the teacher side of the program and figure out what type of questions that they are missing and work on that skill at school.

I am really excited to use this program this year and have fun doing it with Asher. He seems to like it too. Raz kids really go over reading and comprehension.  If you would like me to sign up your other child, contact me.  I have a few spots open, where I can add more students.  The reading levels start at preschool and move to fifth grade.

This is part of reading homework!

Reading:

We learned about our reading super powers.

Our Reading Super powers are :

1) We point to each word.

2) We think about the book.

3) We use the pattern to help us read.

4) We use the words we know to help us read.

5) We look at the first letter and the picture to help us figure out a word we do not know.

6) We use all our superpowers at once to read

Writing– We made “I  am thankful for” pattern books and continued to stretch out words. We wrote about bears and learned a new song about bears.  Ms. Fish is keeping your child’s writing at this time for her college class. You will receive your child’s writing once she is done analyzing it.

Our Heart words:

Week 1– can, like, see, the

Week 2– am, me, look, at

Week 3– saw, no, yes, and

Week 4– it, here, my, you

Week 5– be, get, said, on

Science– We made slime and talked about the texture.
