Great news, everyone…we finished the iReady test! Please keep on practicing iReady at home. Ms. Rusz and I will go over the scores with you at conferences.
Please, please, please remember to send in your child’s charged Chromebook on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The more time your child practices on iReady, the better they will do on the test.
As the kindergarten students become more comfortable with each other, please remind them to keep their hands and feet to themselves. Some students are play fighting, and other students think that the fight is real. It would be helpful if you had a conversation with your child on how to act during recess. Mr. Maktari came and talked to our class about making safe choices at recess.
Some super important dates that are coming up…
January 28- Dismissal at 11:30, and conferences begin at noon. I try to run on time for the meetings, so it would be helpful if you could come to the conference 5 minutes early. You will be placed in the Zoom Waiting room until I am done with the conference before you.
January 29th – Superhero day- I bought capes and mask for the students. We are going to show the school our reading superpowers! We are celebrating all that we know about being a Super Reader. I will take plenty of pictures and share them with you. I will also send home the cape and masks. Please wear a Super Hero shirt or a red or blue shirt.
February 2- Groundhogs Day- 1/2 Day and Valentine’s Day cards are due. People from the ESC will come and observe and video tape our classroom, to show how a kindergarten classroom works.
Subjects-
Reading- We made our goal of reading for 15 minutes straight! We finished learning about all our super reader powers and now we will learn how to read more difficult books.
Phonics- We learned about our new snap words and are learning about word parts. In word parts you can take the “can” and change it to “man” by changing the first letter.
Writing- we finished all about stories and now we are going to learn about how to write a true story. I sent home the old writing. You can keep this writing and the folder at home.
Math and Science -Students explored their five senses to observe the world around them through small and whole group activities this week. They also practiced counting, building and writing teen numbers. Your child should know how the teen numbers work for example that 10 and 6 makes 16.
Science- This week’s theme was the five senses and we will continue to explore and learn about each sense.
