Hello Families!

This week our theme was St. Patrick’s day and our activities centered around this theme. Look below to see the Leprechaun traps we made to capture the Leprechaun that was coming to our room! Many students struggled on the iReady practice test this week. Please make sure that you are practicing iReady at home for 30 minutes in both math and reading.

Beach Day- March 26

March 26th will be the last day of school before spring break.

Spring break is from March 29th-April 4th.

Writing: This week we began a new unit. We started to explore the difference between a how to write and a narrative writing piece. They began writing their first how to by introducing what their reader will learn how to do, the materials needed, and then drawing and writing the steps in order of how to the activity or thing they are teaching the reader.

Phonics: We have also started a new unit in phonics. We have now begun learning a new power, Vowel Power! The students were given a vowel shield to discover that all words have a vowel in them. We will be continuing to explore learning long and short vowels in the coming weeks.

Reading: The students have enjoyed partner reading this week. They learned EEKK style and back to back partner reading. They explored and read pattern books and ABC books with their partners to notice how the alphabet works together to form letters and sounds that make up words!

Math: We have continued working on math story problems and subtraction. Students have been working hard practicing their skill of subtraction through activities such as disappearing trains, and bears on a bus. They have also been showing their hard work through whole group math story problems encouraging one another when solving the problem using a different strategy (drawing a picture, ten-frame, number line, or by equation).
