Kindergarten Weekly Newsletter with Field Trip Pictures

We hope this newsletter finds you well and brings insight into the wonderful learning experiences your children are enjoying here at school. It’s been another exciting week in kindergarten, filled with new discoveries and fun!

Last week, our classroom journeyed through an enlightening theme focused on dentists and the importance of caring for our teeth. We explored the roles of dental professionals and discovered fascinating facts about dental health, emphasizing the significance of good oral hygiene practices. This week, we’re excited to embrace a new adventure with our theme: “Stop Everything and Read!” This initiative encourages us to immerse ourselves in the joy of reading, exploring new stories, and diving into books that spark our imagination. We can’t wait to share the magic of reading with our young learners, fostering a lifelong love for literature and learning.

We are thrilled to welcome a new student to our classroom family, bringing our total number of wonderful learners to 20! This addition enriches our class community, offering new friendships and opportunities for collaboration. Let’s warmly welcome our newest member and make them feel right at home in our inclusive and caring environment. Here’s to new beginnings and the shared adventures that await us all!

Phonics Adventures: This week, we’ve dived into blends and digraphs in our phonics sessions. Blends are when two or more consonants are combined, and each letter’s sound can be heard, like in “bl” in “block” or “st” in “star.” Digraphs, on the other hand, are two letters that come together to make a new single sound, such as “sh” in “ship” or “ch” in “chair.” Understanding these helps young readers decode words more efficiently and boosts their reading fluency.

Math Marvels: In math, we’ve been exploring the concepts of graphing and adding. Our little mathematicians have learned a few new games, such as “Growing Train,” which makes addition tangible and fun. We’ve also compared our heights to various objects in the room, turning measurement into a hands-on activity that sparks curiosity and engagement.

Reading Corner: As we continue to work on decoding words, we’re adding a layer of comprehension to ensure that our students read the words and understand the stories they tell. This integration of comprehension is crucial for developing a more profound love for reading and enhancing overall literacy skills.

Writing Workshop: We’ve embarked on a new writing unit focused on “How to” guides. This unit is important because it helps students organize their thoughts and explain processes step-by-step, which is a fundamental skill in writing, critical thinking, and communication. For our kindergarteners, this looks like drawing and writing simple instructions, such as making a sandwich or brushing their teeth, emphasizing sequence and clarity.

March Reading Month: In celebration of Reading Month, we sent home a Reading Bingo Board last Friday. It’s filled with fun and engaging reading activities to do at home. Please remember to return the completed boards by next Friday. Let’s make reading an adventure!

Assessments Ahead: In the next few weeks, I’ll conduct assessments to prepare for the March report cards. These assessments are a friendly and supportive way to understand each child’s progress and tailor our teaching to support their growth.

A Note for Parents: We’re inviting a Naturalist to our class to share the wonders of the natural world with our students. Please send in $5 to help cover this memorable experience.

As always, we’re here to support your child’s journey in learning and discovery. Thank you for your continuous support and involvement in your child’s education. If you have any questions or want to discuss your child’s progress, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Warmest regards
