Newsletter with Super Reader Pictures 1-28-2022

Next week we will start the iReady test. A note was sent home earlier this week about the iReady test.

Reading: Monday, we celebrated our reading superpowers! We started looking at essential questions we should be asking ourselves as we read, especially when coming to a new or challenging word. We ask, does it look right, does it sound right, and does it make sense. We practiced during this whole group during a read-aloud. Students will be learning how to do this while they read to themselves when we meet with small groups.

Writing: Students have been doing a great job using their writing superpowers! This week we talked about the importance of using vowels in our writing and how they help readers read our stories. I also introduced how we can use our word wall to help us write.

Math: We continued to explore numbers and write numbers to 100 using a number scroll! We also explored shapes and how we can use shapes to make different shapes.

Science: We continued into our unit of Push and Pull. This week we talked about how scientists ask questions about their thoughts and ideas. Students asked questions about forces, and we worked around the room to figure out the answers. We also sorted different items that you push or pull.

Phonics: We continued using vowels and word parts to read unknown words. On Thursday, we used lassos to find different word parts.
