Newsletter 9-26

Hello, my friends,

Shanah Tovah to my fellow Jewish families and friends, may this year bring you peace and happiness. We had a whole fantastic week, and many things happened. We are now at 20 students, three new students started in the last couple of weeks.

IF ANYONE COULD SEND IN A BOX OF CEREAL FOR STUDENTS THAT FORGOT THEIR SNACK THAT WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED!

Advice:

Ask your child if they get hot at recess NOT to put their coat on the bench or the gate; it will get stolen or misplaced. This happens every year when another child picks up a similar-looking jacket and takes it home, and another child loses their coat. Once students come inside for recess, I cannot send them back outside to find their coat.

Grading:

If I put a star or a stamp on your child’s work, that means they did a great job. When I write “WOW” on your child’s paper, that is the best score. If I put a “Completed with help stamp” or my initial “RE,” it means that your student did the work with me. If I think your child needs help with the skill, I will write; please help on the paper.

Phonics:

We are finishing up our study on syllables and compound words. We will begin rhyming this week—the better the rhymer, the better the reader and writer. Please help your child rhyme at home. We studied the alphabet and a day’s letter and learned about vowels. Please help your child write and know the letter and sound for each letter. I use this short video to help in class.

Writing

We are writing something we know about and labeling it. We are now working on the beginning sound and moving toward the beginning, middle, and ending sounds. First, we learned the snap words: me, my a I. Next week we will focus on the terms the and like.

Reading

We are still in the early stages of reading and learning to look at the pictures and gain information about the words through the photos. Remember to send a show-in-tell item on Tuesday so we can write about it. Please do not send in guns or weapons.

Math

We are learning about shapes adding and playing TOP-IT (the card game war).
